Equipments which have optics like cameras, digital camera, video camera and lenses have great sensitivity against moisture. Lens fungus love humidity and the mould appears on the surfaces of the lenses and other optics in humid conditions. It is impossible to remove the mould completely in such an ambient because of microscopic structure of lenses.
Mould corrodes lenses and makes them not suitable to be used.
Dry boxes containing desiccant may be used to store cameras and lenses. But it has some inconveniences as they present constant ultra low humidity level and cannot be set to appropriate humidity level easily.
The solution is to store lenses and cameras in an automatic drying cabinet which can maintain a humidity level between 30% and 50% RH. Setting your automatic drying cabinet to 40% RH value protects them from mould and other inconveniences. Automatic drying cabinets refresh the desiccant by regeneration and no risk of expiration occurs.
Your cost of electricity consumed for automatic drying cabinet will be extremely less in comparison to the cost of repairing (or losing permanently) a fungus eaten lens in your expensive camera.
Even after exposure to sudden temperature changes which causes condensation or using in high humid conditions; storing your entire camera system and lenses in automatic drying cabinets lets you forget lens fungus and other inconveniences. Your negatives and slides that are also commonly damaged by fungii shall also be stored safely in automatic drying cabinets.
